A placer Au occurrence located in sec. 21, T21N, R9E (probably R9W), MDM, 0.9 km (2,800 feet) SW of Golden State Island (coordinates of record), and 13.3 km (8.2 miles) WSW of Chico, along Murphy Slough (which forms part of the island structure), along the Sacramento River, on Federal Wildlife Service land (Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
