A former lode Cu mine located in secs. 33 & 34, T26N, R0E, MDM, 1.3 km (4,200 feet) SSW of Taylorsville. Also located in sec. 2, T25N, R10E, MDM. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in sandstone, slate & serpentinite. The ore body strikes NW and dips 50SW at 762 meters long. Control for ore emplacement was a shear zone. Hanging (?) wall is limestone and the foot (?) wall is sandstone and fine conglomerate. Country rock in which four smaller veins are found is said to probably be meta-andesite. Some chalcopyrite was found on the third of these veins. Local rocks include Silurian and/or Ordovician marine rocks, unit 4 (Northern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings. Workings achieved an overall depth of 60.96 meters. The main tunnel was 700 feet long in 1928 at 200 feet below surface in partly oxidized material. Other tunnels aggregate 2,000 feet; one 60 foot deep shaft on the Pettinger vein. New workings (1936) include a tunnel which runs E and strikes 4 veins. The first one at 350 feet, the second at 400 feet, the third at 450 feet, and the fourth at 500 feet. Some drifting was done on the second vein for about 300 feet, along with a raise of 30 feet.
Analytical data results: 12% Cu on the Pettinger vein.
