A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in secs. 13 & 14, T13N, R6E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) WNW of Kilaga Springs (6 miles NE of Lincoln). Property comprised of 60 acres leased for mining on the Nissen or Schuler Ranch. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit in shallow gravel which probably consists of remnants of Ione shoreline gravels, dissected by later streams and gullies. The gravel lies underneath 2 to 3 feet of soil and sand. The bedrock is decomposed granite, yielding abundant sand. Channels are hard to follow and are likely segments remaining from former course of a branch of Coon Creek, which runs almost in them line of strike of some of the Ophir quartz veins. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings. The average depth of digging has been 10 to 11 feet. Worked by dragline dredge with a 1¾ cubic yard bucket. 11 men were employed in 1935 with the dragline running 18 hours per day and the washing plant 16 hours.
