A former Au-Ag mine located in the W½ sec. 2, T12N, R7E, MDM, 2.2 km (1.4 mile) NNE of Gold Hill and 5.0 km (3.1 miles) NW of Ophir and 5 miles NE of Auburn (3 miles NW of Newcastle), on private (patented) land. The property is comprised of 3 patented claims. Owned by Apphia Vance Morgan (1935). Operated in 1889. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a gold vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body strikes NE and dips 45 at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The vein is 3 feet thick. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 396.24 meters and comprised of 3 shafts and a winze.
Production data are found in: Logan, Clarence August (1936).
A few thousand dollars from the Almont vein were reported in 1889. No other production records were found.
