A former lode Au-Pb occurrence/mine located in the NW¼SE¼ sec. 31, T14N, R11E, MDM, 3.0 km (9,900 feet) ESE of Foresthill, 1 mile N of the Middle Fork American River, on private land within a National Forest area. The property is comprised of 14 claims extending along a dike of serpentinite and schist contact. Operated in the late 1800's and sporadically into the 1930's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in serpentinite & schist. The ore body strikes NW and dips 40NE at a thickness 1.22 meters. The vein is 3 to 4 feet thick. The best ore was reported in a serpentine dike footwall where ankerite was "stamed' (stained ?) by mariposite. High-grade ore occurs along a quartz vein hanging wall, formed by repeated offsetting. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Local geologic structures include: faulting.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 131.06 meters and an overall depth of 80.77 meters and comprised of several adits, stopes, drifting and a winze.
Production data are found in: Logan, Clarence August (1936); McCulloch, W.C., Oesterling, W.A., Spurck, W.H., & Tischler, M.S. (1964).
Over $100,000 (period values) of Au was mined via several adits. No other production record was found.
