A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in secs. 8, 9 & 10, T10N, R7E, MDM, 6.4 km (4.0 miles) ESE of Roseville along Strap Ravine (all 3 sections). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Locality probably constituted all, or some, of the dredged area shown on the topo map along Strap Ravine.
NOTE: Among the 3 USGS MRDS files, file #10116039 provides geographic coordinates placing this locality in Sacramento County but provides the same T&R values as the other 2 files, which provide geographic coordinates in general agreement for Placer County.
Local rocks include Eocene nonmarine rocks, unit 1 (Northern and Central California) and/or Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings included surface dredging operations and open cuts in Blue Lead gravel which contained Au in sec. 9 according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Operated using a dredge with 72 3-cubic foot buckets (January 23 to end of 1940 and during 1941).
