A Cr-Fe occurrence located in sec. 24, T13N, R9E, MDM, about 7.6 km SW of Todd Valley, on the N canyon wall of the Middle Fork American River, E of Paradise Canyon/Todd Creek. Discovered in and first produced in 1917. Owned by R. H. Farmer and J. G. Dodds, California (1918). Operated by Guy Walsh and Hall, lessees, California (1917). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Waring (1917) reported the deposit to be in sec. 29, but Rynearson believed it to be an error, and the deposit is actually in sec. 24.
The ore body is podiform and strikes N75E. Ore body No. 1 is disseminated, massive. Ore body No. 2 is a shear zone. The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation and the primary ore control was lithology. Wallrock alteration is intense (carbonitization). Workings opened a series od small "bunches" of ore striking N80E, along the contact between serpentine and amphibolite schist. Another deposit, 50 feet lower in altitude from the original deposit, exposed a stringer of low-grade ore striking N60E and dipping 60SE. The ore was reported to be fine-grained and contained magnetite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. The original discovery was opened by 4 open cuts about 10 feet long, 4 feet deep and included a 12 foot shaft. The other deposit was opened by a shallow open cut about 30 feet long.
About 9 tons of ore was on the dumps in 1917.
Analytical data results: The ore assayed at 32.3% Cr2O3 and 13.0% SiO2.
