A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 16, T11N, R7E, MDM, 3.0 km (1.9 miles) S of Loomis and 3.8 km (2.4 miles) E of Rocklin, ENE of Sierra Collge and Interstate highway 80, S of the Indian Creek Country Club, along the E side of Barton Road. Operated in 1935. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters.
The ground varies from 8 to 28 feet deep and consists principally of sandy loam and sand, with only a little small creek gravel, on fluted granodiorite bedrock. The Au was reported to be mostly on and within 3 feet of the bedtrock. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings included surface dredging operations utilizing a drag-line bucket with a 1 cubic yard capacity that delivered material to a washing plant (all on cat treads).
