Dana and Brush (1868) point out the presence of hydrozincite in the "Las Nieves" and "La Augustina" mines, (really "Agustina"), in La Nestosa (Lanestosa). Given the tiny size of Lanestosa municipality, little more than the urban centre of the town, most of the mines remained in the neighbouring municipality of Valle de Carranza (Karrantza Harana). However, the proximity to Lanestosa meant that most of the miners were from there, and also that the minerals were transported to this town.
