A reported Au occurrence located in sec. 23, T13N, R9E, MDM, about 4.3 km NE of Grizzly Bear House, on the W canyon wall of the Middle Fork American River, just W of US Canyon. The property comprises 480 acres. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The American Gold Mining Company contracted to purchase the land from the Southern Pacific Company. This property lies along the river in this section, across from the Hines Gilbert Quartz Mine.
NOTE: The geographic coordinates presented in USGS MRDS database file #10188513 were used for this Mindat file. The coordinates presented in MRDS file #10032081 place the locality on the El Dorado County side of the river.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit hosted in river gravels. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Placer mining equipment was being installed in 1934.
