A former lode Au-Pb-Zn-As occurrence/mine located in the N½S½ (estimated) sec. 35, T16N, R8E, MDM, about 4 km SE of Grass Valley proper, on the W slope of Ophir Hill, W of Union Hill. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Part of the Empire claim.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in diabase and granodiorite. The ore body strikes NW and dips 35SW at a thickness of 0.3 meter. It is comprised of a vein and seams averaging 1 foot in thickness. Combed, massive and sheared quartz are present. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 579.12 meters and an overall depth of 304.8 meters and comprised of stopes, crosscuts, drifts and a shaft.
