A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 26, T16N, R8E,MDM, about 1.8 km E of Grass Valley proper, N of Ophir Hill, and on the S side of the South Fork Wolf Creek (based on the geographic coordinates provided in the USGS MRDS database file - believed to be in error) OR located in secs. 11 & 14, T16N, R8E, MDM, ¾ mile W of Nevada City, on private (patented) land. The property comprises 10.45 acres. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. NOTE: The USGS MRDS file contains a significant error, believed to be in the geographic coordinates. That file refers this mine to the Champion Mine, which is located in the same 2 T&R sections (plus others).
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate. The ore body strikes N30W and dips W. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 274.32 meters and an overall depth of 97.54 meters, and comprised of an incline, drift and crosscut.
