A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SE¼NE¼ (estimated) sec. 2, T15N, R8E, MDM, about 2.5 km NNW of La Barr Meadows and about 2 miles S of Grass Valley, on private (patented) land. The property comprises 69.72 acres. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10101208 presents geographical coordinates of -121.04659, 39.20683N, placing this locality in sec. 35, T16N, R8E; however, the same file states that the T&R value is sec. 2, T15N, R8E, in agreement with MRDS file #10139963.
Mineralization is hosted in syenite. The ore body strikes N and dips 38E at a thickness of 0.91 meter. Sulfides are concentrated near the footwall. The vein is 1.5 to 3 feet thick. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 13.72 meters and an overall depth of 39.62 meters and are comprised of a shaft and a drift.
