A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in the E½SW¼ & W½SE¼ sec. 18, T17N, R11E, MDM, 0.6 km (0.4 mile) N of Alpha (site), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
The placer is comprised of Neocene gravels with about 75 acres of gravel preserved (Lindgren). The pebbles consist chiefly of quartz, quartzite and hard conglomerate. The banks are 90 feet high, including 20 feet of clay at the top. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
