Minisink Mine; Pahaquarry Copper Mine
These workings, comprised of adits, shafts and an open pit along the Delaware River, are some of the oldest copper mine workings in North America, dating to the 18th century, or older. Their origins are lost in history and are attributed to early Dutch settlers. They are located 7 miles North of the Delaware Water Gap. Host rock is hard sandstone of the High Falls formation (Silurian). Boy Scout camp 1925-1972. Transferred to the National Park Service in 1978, and later incorporated into the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
