A mine located at Mile marker 41 on State Highway 70. This mining operation is located on an area of locally concentrated heavy minerals in the quartz sand/gravel Cohansey formation West of Lakehurst, NJ. Originally operated by ASARCO, Inc., the property was subsequently operated by Heritage Minerals until the cessation of mining operations. The site was a hazardous waste site regulated by the New Jersey DEP and federal nuclear regulatory commission due to concentrations of monazite-(Ce) waste product. This locality is not listed in the USGS MRDS database.
