A pumice deposit/mine located in sec. 22, T3S, R32E, MDM, 2.4 km (7,900 feet) WSW of Hammil (about 4 miles SE of Yellowjacket Spring prospect symbols in SE¼NW¼, SW¼SW¼), on National Forst land. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
A pumice layer, subagueous in origin, is about 10 feet thick, flat-lying, and overlain partly by brownish-gray, pumiceous soil and partly by loosely consolidated Bishop Tuff. Pumice fragments are white, angular, and range from dust-like particles to 4 inches in diameter. Local rocks include Quaternary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 2 (Long Valley Caldera).
Workings include surface openings comprised of an open pit 150 feet long, 100 feet wide, and 20 feet deep. The pit is abandoned.
Production information: Not worked since late in 1940's.
