A pumice occurrence located in secs. 8 & 17, T3S, R32E, MDM, 6.0 km (3.7 miles) WNW of Hammil, in the Hammil Valley, just S of its juncture with the Blind Springs Valley, on National Forest land. Started in early 1940's and closed down in 1948. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Thick sequence of pumice beds are exposed in entensive bench-cut mining operation. The beds range from a few inches to several feet in thickness and are separated by layers of cross-bedded, sandy pumice. Pumice fragments are angular in the beds and well-rounded in the cross-bedded layers. Local rocks include Quaternary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 2 (Long Valley Caldera).
Workings include surface openings/operations comprised of a bench-cut open pit.
Commodity used in making concrete blocks.
