A pumice deposit/mine located in sec. 31, T2S, R32E, MDM, 2.9 km (9,400 feet) S of Blind Spring Hill (coordinates of record) (about 1000 feet N of Yellowjacket Spring on low, rolling hills that border on the SE part of Blind Spring Valley. Quarry symbol in the approximate center E½ of sec. Prospect symbols in the NW¼NE¼, SE¼NE¼, and SE¼NW¼ of sec.), on National Forest land. Operated 1 year during the latter part of the 1940's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Pumice occurs in a layer that dips E about 10 degrees. Beds range from 1 to 6 feet thick and are separated by thin beds of pumicite up to 1 foot thick. Pumice fragments are angular, white, and range in size from dust to as much as 2 inches in diameter. Local rocks include Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits.
Workings include surface openings/operations comprised of bulldozer operations. Commodity used in making lightweight building blocks.
