A pumice deposit/mine located in sec. 6, T3S, R32E, MDM, 5.7 km (3.6 miles) S of Diana Peak, near Yellowjacket Spring and along Yellowjacket Canyon (¼ mile SW of Yellowjacket Spring in the low rolling hills at the southern end of Blind Spring Valley. Quarry and prospect symbols in the W½NE¼ of the sec.; quarry symbol in the SE¼SW¼ of the sec. [2 properties ?]), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided under the MRDS file for the "Estella Pumice property" (#10261413): 37.719140N, 118.487650W (37°43'09"N, 118°29'12"W).

Mineralization is a pumice deposit. Exposures of the pumice are few and are in mining operations, test pits, and bulldozer cuts. The pumice layer, 50 to 60 feet thick, is assumed to underlie at least 2 to 3 square miles. It dips about 5 degrees E, and consists of numerous thin beds of pumice and pumicite from 1 to 5 feet thick. Fragments are angular, white, and from dust-like particles to 3 inch diameter fragments. Local rocks include Quaternary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 2 (Long Valley Caldera) and Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits.

Workings include surface openings and operations comprised of bulldozer operations and a dragline. Product used as aggregate in the manufacture of light weight building blocks.

Production information: Started in the late 1940's & lasted only a few months. Several hundred tons removed. Idle in September, 1953.
