Probably from a glacial erratic from the bolder clay that covers much of the Wirral and large areas of NW England.
A number of minerals, albeit not ilmenite, have been reported within the erratic rocks in the bolder clay at Thurstaston Beach on the Wirral (UK Journal of Mines and Minerals - no 6, Spring 1989).
