A Mn occurrence/prospect located in sec. 25, T4N, R25E, MDM, 3.7 km (2.3 miles) ESE of Willow Springs, along Clearwater Creek, on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Bodie Mountain Wilderness Study Area) (1.7 miles E of highway 395 along the road to Bodie; on a steep SW slope 100 yards NE of the road). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Pliocene andesite. The ore body strikes N10W and dips 60E at a thickness of 0.3 meters. It is 3 meters wide and 10 meters long. The occurrence is a fissure vein deposit with an irregular shape. Primary mode of origin is hydrothermal. Primary ore control was fracturing and the secondary was igneous activity. No wallrock alteration. Fissure or vein of psilomelane coated with some clay and iron oxides in andesite porphyry. Surrounding rocks are porphyritic volcanics. Very little soft, black, sooty manganese oxide is found with the psilomelane. Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 17 (Cascade Range).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a small pit.
