A former lode Au-Cu mine located in secs. 9 & 10, T3S, R16E, MDM, 2.0 km (6,500 feet) SSW of Coulterville, along Maxwell Creek, on private land. Discovered in 1853. This property consists of 20.15 patented acres. Owned by Louise A. Ward & Laurence Eaton. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a 2 to 7 foot thick vein, hosted in slate. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 60-70NE, at a thickness of 2.13 meters. This is a continuation of the same vein system that crosses the Malvin S group. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with a total length of 783.34 meters and an overall depth of 213.36 meters and comprised of a shaft with 6 levels, drifts, and stopes.
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
Ore on the 700 foot level ran $20 to as high as $500 Au/ton (period values).
