A former lode Au mine located in sec. 19, T5S, R18E, MDM, 4.2 km (2.6 miles) NNW of Mariposa, along Mariposa Creek (in Texas Gulch close to highway 140 between Negro Hill and the Ortega Mine. Formerly part of the Las Mariposas land grant.). Operated by Noel Coutts (1952). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified surface and underground openings.
Active 1902-1903, producing 185.54 tons of ore yielding $2,689.73 (period values), or an average of $14.51 (period values) per ton. Produced about 1,100 tons of low-grade ore between 1941 and 1952. Inactive in August 1955.
