A former lode Au mine located in sec. 24, T5S, R18E, MDM, 0.9 km (2,900 feet) SW of Mariposa (adjoins the Mariposa Mine on the SE). Discovered in 1855. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. The vein most extensively worked is believed to be an extension of the Mariposa vein. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings. In 1928 there was a 135 foot inclined shaft with 2 levels. The upper level has 250 feet of drifts and the lower level has 300 feet. There is a stope 3 feet wide, 100 feet long and 70 feet high.
The principal recorded production was between 1900 and 1915, during which time 632.98 tons of ore were mined, which yielded $11,996.94 (period values), or an average of $18.95 per ton (period values). The mine was worked intermittently up to 1938.
