A former lode Au mine located in sec. 10, T5S, R16E, MDM, 2.5 km (8,100 feet) SSE of Quartzburg (0.5 km (1,500 feet) SW of the Number Nine Mine; 1.5 miles S of the Quartzburg School). Discovered in 1872. Discovered and owned by D.M. Poole. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a vein 3 to 6 feet thick. The ore body strikes N and dips 90 at a thickness of 1.83 meters. Native gold occurs chiefly in the oxidized zone. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 45.72 meters and comprised of a shaft with cionsiderable drifting on several levels.
Poole recovered several thousand dollars in Au with a hand mortor at the discovery site. Worked by Poole in the 1870's and by the Live Oak Mining Co. during the 1880's. Last work known to have been done was in 1909. Much of the ore ran from $4-$50/ton (period values). No specific production record found.
