A former Cu occurrence/propsect/mine located in sec. 32, T7S, R18E, MDM, 2.3 km (7,500 feet) SE of Copper Hill (coordinates of record) (1¼ miles NW of the Green Mountain Forest Service lookout). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: This locality is referred to as the Lookout prospect in the MRDS database files; however, on the topo map it is named the Lookout Mine. Based on the description in the MRDS files, it appears as if it were a mine with old workings, and most recently was being prospected (1956).
Mineralization is an oxidized copper ore deposit hosted in phyllite, amphibolite and schist. Local alteration was hydrothermal. Wall rocks adjacent to the shear zone are porous and thoroughly leached out by hydrothermal fluids. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 2 old shafts and cuts. The most recent working is a shallow shaft inclined 80E, supported by 8 inch stalls and entered by a chain ladder. Exploration work was being carried out intermittently in the summer of 1956.
