A former Au mine located in sec. 8, T5S, R18E, MDM, 1.9 km (6,300 feet) ENE of Mount Bullion (near state highway 49), on private land. Discovered in 1925. Produced 1925 to 1928. Operated by J. N. Knight et al. (1927-1928). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. This is a former Las Mariposas grant mine.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in serpentinite, slate, and schist. The vein is composed of 5 parallel shear zones. The ore body strikes NW and dips 70NE at a thickness of 0.46 meters. Ore emplacement controls included talc veins in fractures and joint planes which contain free gold. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a total length of 57.91 meters and an overall depth of 30.48 meters. They are comprised of several surface cuts, an inclined shaft at 50 feet deep and a vertical shaft 100 feet deep.
Production data are found in: Laizure (1928).
