A Mn occurrence/prospect located in the S½ sec. 19, T3S, R16E, MDM, 0.2 km (600 feet) ENE of Jasper Point (coordinates of record) (100 yards S of the old Yosemite Railroad bed). Discovered in 1941. Owned by the Allebrand Minerals Co., California (1974). Owned & operated by Herbert J. Kelm, California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Amador group - M-L. The ore is a bed or series of lenses enclosed in thick-bedded red chert, and intercalated with green meta-tuff and meta-volcanics. The chert of the Amador group is underlain by greenstone or pillow basalt. Ore consists of botryoidal psilomelane and sooty pyrolusite. Beds are cut by small transverse faults. The ore zone averages about 6 feet in width. Individual lenses contain ore between 45 and 50% Mn. One ore body is 35 feet long. There is a second ore zone 50 to 100 feet above the quarry. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 30 foot tunnel.
