A former Au-Ag-Cu mine located in the N½ sec. 30, T4S, R17E, MDM, 2.6 km (8,600 feet) WSW of Bear Valley, on Bear Valley Mountain. Property consisted of 2 claims. Operated during the periods 1850-1917, 1919-1922, 1925-1928, and 1948. Operated by C. H. Burt (1917-1940). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. This mine is referred to in the Report of the State Mineralogist XXIV, pp. 91-92, and p. 133. P. 91 indicates the location as sec. 30, T4S, R16E, and p. 133 gives the location as sec. 25, T4S, R16E; however, the description of the location shown in the 1957 reference would indicate that it is in sec. 30, T4S, R17E.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with 2 veins from a few inches to more than 4 feet thick. The ore body is 1.22 meters thick. The veins are nearly flat, laminated quartz veins, one above the other. The gold is free. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 54.86 meters, and, in September 1954, consisted of 3 inclined shafts less than 100 feet apart, 2 vertical shafts open to at least 100 feet, 3 other caved shafts & numerous partly caved stopes & open cuts. There was also a small Gibson mill and a steam engine on the property.
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
Cu production was 0-100,000 pounds (Eric, 1948). Gold not visible to the naked eye.
