A placer Au occurrence located in sec. 9, T7S, R17E, MDM, 5.2 km (3.2 miles) SSW of Round Hills (coordinates of record), along Mariposa Creek. Operated in 1938. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Located 2 airline miles NW of White Rock silica mine (sec. 11). The ground extends 6,000 feet along Mariposa Creek and is 9 to 25 feet deep, but the V-shaped canyon is very narrow and only a small area of the 40 acre tract is pay gravel. Present ownership not determined.
Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Much of the gravel averaged $0.50 per cubic yard (period values). Part of the gravel was worked by T. D. Hanas in 1938.
