A former lode Au mine located in secs. 34 & 35, T5S, R18E, MDM, 3.5 km (2.1 miles) SSW of Mariposa, along Buckeye Creek (in Buckeye Gulch, N of Mormon Bar-Legrand Road). Operated duering the periods 1901-1902 & 1912-1913. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. A former Las Mariposas grant mine.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. May be an extension of the Buckeye vein system. Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
Last active 1900-1902 and 1912-1913. During these periods 85.12 tons of ore were mined that yielded $1,633.05, or an average of $19.20 per ton at the period values for Au.
