A Mn occurrence/prospect located in the SE¼ sec. 1, T3S, R15E, MDM, 3.1 km (1.9 miles) E of Granite Springs, along Willow Creek. Owned by W. T. Gale (1942). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Located on the S side of highway 132, 200 yards SE of the Gale Ranch house and 7.3 miles W of Coulterville. May be the prospect shown in the SE¼ of the sec. on USGS quadrangles Merced Falls, California (1954) & Penon Blanco Peak (1962).
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Amador Group/M To L. Massive to thick-bedded chert with Mn stains, and some stringers of psilomelane up to ½ inch (1.25 cm) thick. The chert strikes N-S and dips 70E. It is probably part of the Hunter Valley chert of the Amador group. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 1 shaft at 6 feet (2.0 meters) square and 20 feet deep. No systematic development work has been done.
No manganese was seen when investigated.
