A former Au-Hg mine located in secs. 15 & 16, T3S, R16E, MDM, about 2.6 miles S of Coulterville, on the upper SW slope of Horseshoe Bend Mountain (adjacent to the Cabinet & Lookout Mines), on private (patented) land. Property consists of 17.19 acres of patented land. Owned by Ralph E. and Libbie N. Dailey (1957). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

NOTE: California DOM Bulletin 108, Pl. 10 shows the Crystal Mine in secs. 15, 16, 21 - the same location apparently as the Cabinet Mine; the workings shown in secs. 15 & 21 on the Coulterville quadrangle are probably this mine (MRDS comment).

NOTE: There are an additional pair of MRDS files (#10163920 & #10031159) which pertain to a rather coincidental "Penobscott Mine" with alternate names including "Crystall Mine." These files apparently pertain to other mine(s) since location details do not correspond in any manner to those of this locality.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone. The ore body is a pinch & swell body that strikes N60E and dips vertically.
Local alteration is hydrothermal. The Crystal vein intersects 2 parallel quartz veins (Cabinet & Lookout). The Crystal vein contains small blebs of cinnabar and hydrothermally altered greenstone. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include unspecified underground openings.

Hg was never recovered in commercial amounts. No other production data were found.
