A former lode Au mine located in sec. 36, T3S, R16E, MDM, about 3 miles SSW of Buckhorn Peak, along the Merced River, S of Scotch Gulch and 6 miles SSE of Coulterville (near the top of a steep ridge that rises from the E bank of the Merced River), on a patented fractional claim. Operated by the Crown Peak Mining Co. Ltd. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Operated jointly with Crown Lead and Red Bank or Stevenson group mines at various times. Property consisted of 13 acres adjoining the Crown Lead Mine on the SE.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in serpentinite and slate. The ore body strikes NW and dips 65NE at a thickness of 2.44 meters. An associated rock is granite. The footwall is serpentine and the hanging wall is slate. 2 quartz veins occur at contact varying from 6 to 8 feet thick. The roughly parallel veins are on either side of a dike-like intrusion of serpentine. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings which, in 1914, were comprised of a 45 foot inclined shaft and a 50 foot open cut. The shaft and workings are caved.
