A former Au-Pb mine located in sec. 34, T4S, R18E, MDM (section lines projected), about ¼ mile N of Whitlock (4 miles NE of Kinsley). Discovered before the 1880's. Operated by Belle Mccord Roberts. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The owner has retained mineral rights on 1 claim of about 20 acres which is part of a parcel of patented agricultural land.

NOTE: The description of where this mine is located versus where it appears on the topo map, using the coordinates provided in both MRDS database files, is descrepant. The coordinates provided were verified as valid for the T&R section cited. The coordinates place it far to the east from the Whitlock area.

Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit with a vein 4 to 12 feet thick vein, hosted in metasedimentary rock. The ore body is pinch & swell in form and strikes N6-7.5W and dips vertically at a thickness of 3.66 meters. The vein matter is in part massive milky quartz and in part a ribbon-structure of laminated white and glassy quartz including thin sheets of slate wall rock. It follows contact between slaty and schistose metasediments and hornblende granodiorite, which is cut by several granitic porphyry dikes. The largest dike parallels the strike of the vein. Associated rocks include granite and Late Permian hornblendite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings with a total length of 396.24 meters and an overall depth of 27.43 meters. The workings in 1919 consisted of a 96 foot shaft with levels at 50 and 90 feet, 188 feet of drifts, and shallow workings strung out along the vein for over 1,300 feet.

Production data are found in: Bowen and Gray (1957).

Five hundred tons of ore were taken out in the period 1889-1890, with a reported average of about $12 per ton (period values). Only assessment work was being done in 1919. No sustained mining was done before 1929 and little has been done in recent years.
