A former lode Au-Ag mine located in secs. 29 & 30, T3S, R17E, MDM, 2.3 km (7,500 feet) S of Buckhorn Peak (coordinates of record) and about 7 miles SE of Coulterville, along Flyaway Gulch (near its head), on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Merced River Wilderness Study Area). Produced in 1913. Operator Jas K., Bernard, John Lindsay MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in greenstone, serpentinite, volcanic rock (aphanitic), norite and diorite. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 58NE. The deposit involves sheared greenstone. Pockets of Au occur in both albitite and quartz, plus there are masses of mineralized serpentine which contain Au. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a shaft (and adit ?), inaccessible by Septemebr 1954.
Production data are found in: Bowen & Gray (1957).
During 1913, 117 tons of ore were mined by G. A. Helander of Coulterville, which yielded 68.02 ounces of Au and 13 ounces of Ag. Indle during 1913.
Assay data results: Year: 1913: ^0.66 ounces Au/ton (19 grams/metric ton); ^0.1 ounce Ag/ton (3 grams Ag/metric ton).
