A former placer Au-Ag mine (dredge) located in secs. 23 & 26, T7S, R19E, MDM, 3.5 km (2.2 miles) NW of Summit House (locale), along the Chowchilla River (just upstream of river mile 51). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: The MRDS database file presented coordinates which placed this locality along Split Rock Creek, in sec. 30, Mariposa County. Research of the coordinates for the center of sec. 23, as stated in the same MRDS file, revealed that the MRDS coordinates were in error. Adjustment of the longitude from 55' to 51' corrected the location to sec. 23 (right along the Chowchilla River) IAW the MRDS file data.
Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
