A Au occurrence located in sec. 14, T7N, R12E, MDM, 2.3 km (1.4 miles) NNE of Volcano. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is . This was one of the early quartz claims in the country (county ??).
NOTE: The USGS MRDS database file for this locality contains some ridiculous data. It provides the coordnates, which correspond to the T&R value presented, but then it states that this mine is about 1½ miles SW of Jackson. Then it states that this mine is in the Jackson District and indicates that it is an East Belt District. The Jackson District is THE Mother Lode district in this county. A mile SW of Jackson would not lie on the Mother Lode, nor is it anywhere near the T&R value presented for this mine. The T&R value and coordinates presented are in the East Belt, but lie within the Volcano District.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in greenstone. The ore body strikes NE and dips SE. The vein dips vertically for 40 feet below surface then dips 50 SE at depth. It averages 1 to 2 feet in thickness. There are 2 ore shoots at 110 and 175 feet in length, separated by 10 feet of barren ground. The vein walls are greenstone. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a vertical shaft 40 feet deep with a 50 degree inclined winze at its base.
