A Mn occurrence located in sec. 33, T12N, R2W (R7W ?), MDM, 0.2 km (700 feet) SE of Buckhorn Camp, along the South Fork Buckeye Creek (Wood Canyon), on state forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a Mn deposit. The ore outcrops in serpentine and lies within a few feet of an exposure of greenstone from the Franciscan group. Manganese ore, apparently a manganiferous chert, is black and hard. Local rocks include Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 2 (Coast Ranges).
Ore is too siliceous to be of economic value.
