A former gypsum occurrence/mine located in secs. 2, 3 & 11, T24S, R18E, MDM, 6.5 km (4.0 miles) ESE of Reef Station. Discovered in 1947. Mining commenced in 1947. Operated by H. M. Holloway. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
The upper 2 feet of the deposit is a hard gray material composed of silt containing streaks and spots of finely divided gypsum. The lower 4 feet is fine-grained, soft, yellowish white gypsite that contains a little calcium carbonate. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include surface openings/operations.
In 1952 material was sold for $1.50 per ton at the mine. Active 1954-1957 & 1958. Overburden stripped with carryalls and gypsite was loaded directly on trucks.
