A former Au mine located in sec. 30, T30S, R33E, MDM, 1.5 km (1.0 mile) SSW of Millersville and 3.1 km (1.9 miles) WSW of Loraine, on the divide between Studhorse Canyon on the E and Big Last Chance Canyon on the W (located claim). The property comprises 900 acres. Owned by the Zenda Gold Mining Company, Los Angeles, California (timeframe = ?). Owned & operated by Equinox Resources Ltd. (in March 94 Amalgamated into Hecla) (100%), Canada (1990-1994); owned & operated by Hecla Mining Co. (100%), Idaho (1994-1997). The property was operated from August 1, 1923, until September, 1927, when operations were suspended. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Listed by Randol (1996/1997) as post-feasibility stage.
Mineralization is a hydrothermal vein deposit (Deposit model: 273: Low-sulfide Au-quartz vein) hosted in quartz diorite, rhyolite, and porphyry. Granitic rocks in the area contain roof pendants of Pre-Cambrian age metasedimentary rocks which are trending NE. A massive outcrop of quartz, 30 to 50 feet wide was exposed in the glory hole. The pay shoot is 300 feet long, averaging 30 feet in thickness. Local rocks include Tertiary intrusive rocks (hypabyssal), unit 7 (Northern Mojave Desert).
Related tectonic structures include a magmatic arc.
Workings include a number of tunnels 150 to 600 feet long plus 2 glory holes. The main haulage tunnel was driven N30W for 350 feet, from which point a raise connects with the glory hole. A tramway ¾ mile long was constructed between the mine and the millsite.
Analytical data results: Ore mined from the glory hole was $3 (period values)/ton, carrying 0.08 ounce/ton Au and 3.5 ounces/ton Ag.
Reserves and resources: Type: in-situ (estimate year = 1993): Demonstrated: 1,089,000 metric tons of ore; total resources: 1,089,000 metric tons ore. Au: 1.75 grams/metric ton; Ag: 28.5 grams/metric ton.
