A former W occurrence/mine located in the E½ sec. 17, T25S, R32E, MDM, 2.7 km (1.7 miles) N of Alta Sierra, on the divide between the headwaters of Slick Rock Creek and Cow Creek, on National Forest land. Operated during the period 1940 to 1944. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in limestone and quartz diorite. The ore body is lenticular at a width of 4.57 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included fractures that strike NW. The roof pendant strikes NW and is about 4,000 feet long, 200 feet wide with a maximum width of 2,000 feet. One ore shoot extends 30 feet along strike, is 15 feet wide and 20 feet in vertical extent. Two parallel ore streaks were 4 feet wide and separated by 8 feet of marble. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of three 100 foot adits driven S at 40 foot vertical intervals plus one surface cut.
Production statistics: Year: 1944 (period = to 1944): ore (estimated) at ^0.5-1% WO3. Recovery percentage: 1 weight percent.
Most of the production was done in 1941.
