A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 3, T30S, R40E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) NNW of Government Peak (coordinates of record). Discovered in 1895. The property is comprised of 4 claims. Owned by E. B. McGinnis, Randsburg, California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10104167 states that this locality is located in sec. 2, T29S, R40E, MDM, and also states that it is located 5 miles NNW of Government Peak; however, it presents geographic coordinates that agree with those presented in the other 2 pertinent MRDS files, placing it in sec. 3, T30S, R40E. These data are in error.
Mineralization is hosted in schist, rhyolite, quartz monzonite and quartz latite. The ore body is lenticular, strikes N35W and dips 45NE at a thickness of 2.13 meters. The vein is 2 to 7 feet thick. Values in the vein are very erratic, but the ore mined is high-grade. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California) and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 91.44 meters and comprised of 4 tunnels, each over 400 feet long, and 4 shafts about 100 feet deep. There are over 1,000 feet of underground workings on the property, with the deepest development being about 300 feet. The property has been operated by leasers for years.
