A Sn occurrence/claim group located in sec. 1, T28S, R33E, MDM, about 4.0 km (2.5 miles) WNW of Inspiration Point (coordinates of record), along the W canyon wall of the South Fork Erskine Creek, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Reached by turning E from highway 178 at Scovern Hot Springs, a point 2.6 miles S of Isabella, and up a small road 11.5 miles up Erskine Creek. The northern claims of the Lucky Three overlap those on the southern end of the Jeanette-Grant claims (UTM approximate). No evidence of mineralization usually associated with ore shoots.
NOTE: USGS MRDS file #10163273 presents geographic coordinates that place this locality in sec. 36, T27N, R33E, MDM, in the southern part of the section, near the sec. 1, T28S, R33E, MDM boundary. USGS file #10033755 presents geographic coordinates (-118.39675, 35.5297) placing this locality further N in sec. 36. Both MRDS files state that this mine is located in sec. 1, T28S, R33E, MDM; therefore, the coordinates in MRDS file #10163273 seem to be the most accurate and fall within the stated level of accuracy for location data, and are presented in this Mindat file. Further, MRDS file #10163273 states that this is an Sb mine but presents no bibliographical references other than itself and a former MAS database file number, while file #10033755 states that it is a tin mine and provides a reference pertaining to Sn and further describes the deposit consistent with a Sn occurrence.
Mineralization is a contact metasomatic deposit hosted in granodiorite and metasedimentary rock. The ore body strikes N25W and dips nearly vertical. Contact is marked by tactite and other signs of metamorphism on a contact between granitic rocks of the Sierra Nevada batholith on the W and a roof pendant of metasediments on the E. The average strike is N45W, dipping vertical to steep E and W dips. Sn is found in fault breccia material and altered granite. Associated rocks include Late Cretaceous diorite. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Analytical data results: Ore sample grades 0.4 to 4.2 pounds Sn per ton.
