A Sn occurrence/prospect located in sec. 30, T9N, R17W, MDM, 12.8 km (8.0 miles) E of Lebec and 12.6 km (7.8 miles) ENE of Gorman (Los Angeles County), W of the South portal No. 4 of the aquaduct. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. Located 2,000 feet E of the Upper Butler prospect, and within a few hundred feet of the edge of valley alluvium.
Mineralization is a contact metasomatic Sn deposit hosted in limestone. Two small, iron-rich tactite bodies occur in bleached, recrystallized limestone adjacent to granite. In the limestone, a strong set of joints strike E and dip steeply S. The granite does not crop out, but float is present. Deeply weathered tactite is mainly massive brown garnet with magnetite, hematite and limonite. Thin films of malachite and chrysocolla coat fractures in the N ore body. Cassiterite is rare. Associated rocks include Late Cretaceous granite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or limestone of probable Paleozoic or Mesozoic age.
Workings include surface openings.
