A former W-Cu (trace) occurrence/mine located in the SE¼SW¼ sec. 34, T26S, R34E MDM, 1.3 km (0.8 mile) SSE of Nicolls Peak (coordinates of record, along the W canyon wall of Kelso Valley (3¼ miles S of Weldon). Produced during 1954. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in metamorphic rock. The ore body is 91.44 meters long. Associated rocks include quartz monzonite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 64.01 meters and an overall depth of 30.48 meters and comprised of a 10 foot long trench and a 25 foot vertical shaft. From E to W, a 100 foot shaft is inclined 65 degrees SW, the trench, then a 75 foot deep shaft inclined 80SW, then the 25 foot vertical shaft.
Production data can be found in Troxel and Morton (1962).
A few tons of W ore yielded in 1954. A small tonnage was probably mined previously.
