Christmas Tree Mine


A W occurrence/prospect/mine located in the N½ sec. 14, T27S, R33E, MDM, 7.3 km (4.6 miles) ESE of Lake Isabella [town] and about 8.0 km (5¼ miles) E of Bodfish, in the headwaters area of Spring Gulch, N of Erskine Creek. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in metamorphic rock & quartz monzonite. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 45NE. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 50 foot open cut and a NW-driven drift several tens of feet SE below the open cut, plus some inclined shafts.

There was an undetermined production in 1955.
