A Mn occurrence located in T20N, R1E, SBM or in T21N, R2E, SBM, 13.8 km (8.6 miles) E of Sugarloaf Peak (coordinates of record), and 6.1 km (3.8 miles) WSW of Shoreline Butte (coordinates of record), along Wingate Wash, on the eastern margin of the Panamint Range, on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters.
NOTE: Trask (1950) reports this prospect in T20N, R1E, SBM. It is more likely in T21N, R2E, SBM.
Mineralization is a bedded wad deposit in Tertiary lake beds (?). The ore body consists of bedded Mn oxide in conglomerate and Pliocene sandstone. 3 beds of Mn are found in a zone 10 to 12 feet thick. The grade is probably not over 5% Mn. Local rocks include Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits and/or Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 16 (Northern Mojave Desert).
