A former borate-B mine located in sec. 4, T25N, R3E, SBM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) NE of Ryan, at the foot of the western slope of the Greenwater Range. Owned and operated by the U.S. Borax and Chemical Corp. First operated in 1915. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a Miocene borate deposit (Deposit model information: Model code: 260; USGS model code: 35b.3; Deposit model name ; Lacustrine borates), hosted in rocks of the Miocene Furnace Creek Formation (shale) and sandstone. Calcite-colemanite encloses ulexite. The deposit dips moderately steeply. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
Reserves and resources data: Type: In-situ; Estimate year; 1976: B2O3 = 14 weight percent. There is also a small, but unspecified, amount of ulexite ore reserves. About 50% of the reserves/resources were considered to be recoverable.
